Merritt Companies Receives Loudoun Chamber’s Community Leadership Award

ASHBURN, VA – February 23, 2024 – Last night, Merritt Companies was awarded the 2024 Community Leadership Award at the Loudoun County Chamber’s Annual Meeting & Community Leadership Award Ceremony. Merritt Companies, which includes Merritt Properties, Merritt Construction Services and Merritt Clubs, was recognized in the Large Business category for demonstrating a commitment to strengthening the community in Loudoun County, Virginia in 2023.

Merritt’s Virginia office was nominated by Loudoun Hunger Relief, a nonprofit emergency food pantry serving Loudoun County for over 30 years. In 2023, Merritt Construction Services was contracted by Loudoun Hunger Relief to design and construct a 9,200-square foot expansion for their Community Services Center. Merritt supported their mission further by providing in-kind donations towards the expansion, allowing for the renovation to be completed under budget.

Merritt Companies was also recognized for demonstrating philanthropic leadership through monetary donations. In 2023, a total of $1.5 million was donated to local nonprofits, including The Big Dig of the National Capital Area, Toys for Tots, The Good Shepard Alliance, The Builders Alliance, House of Mercy, and Women Giving Back. Merritt Companies’ dedication to community service has also been acknowledged through several notable awards, including the Moxie Award and the Firm of the Year award from NAIOP’s Northern Virginia Chapter.

Merritt has a longstanding history of philanthropy, a tradition passed down from Merritt’s founder, Leroy Merritt. Merritt Companies’ approach centers on addressing the immediate needs of disadvantaged women and children in Loudoun County by providing essential support such as food, clothing, and shelter. Merritt also encourages employees to participate in philanthropic initiatives through volunteering and matching personal donations.
