Basement Finishing: If you have a basement that needs finished or refinished we can help. We of course can be hired to completely finish your basement with no work done by you. On the other hand we also work with homeowners that want to do some or all of the work themselves, and we can help tell you what to do and how to do it. Many times a homeowner wants to finish a basement by themselves but they don't really have the knowledge to do so. We can come in for just 4 hours and get you started on the framing, then you can then finish the rest of the framing on your own. Later we can come back in again for 4 more hours and get you started on the drywall, and again you can finish the rest yourself. We can even come in for less time than that and just help with a specific task you are uncomfortable doing on your own, such as framing a load bearing wall. If you are in the middle of finishing your basement and you just want someone to stop by for an hour and tell you if you are on the right track or not, we can do that as well. Remember it's cheaper to stop and ask a question now, than do it wrong and fix it later.
 
Bathroom Remodels: One of our most requested services is bathroom remodels. A good bathroom remodel involves tearing the bathroom down to the studs and starting completely over. We have done that many times, and are more than capable of a full on bath remodel. We also do smaller bathroom jobs that we like to classify as bathroom facelifts. In a facelift situation you might just change out the vanity cabinet, toilet, and put in a new floor. It usually is better to gut the bathroom and do a full on remodel, but for budget conscious consumers a facelift can add years of use while waiting on the money to do a full remodel. In either case Merritt Construction would be happy to come in and do the work for you. If you are remodeling your own bathroom we would also be happy to come in for just a couple hours to answer questions, or help with an especially difficult task. Cabinet Installation: Over the years we have installed cabinets in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, home offices, dining rooms and garages. So as you can imagine we are fully capable of installing cabinets in whatever room of your house that is needed. Cabinet installation is one of those things that looks easy, but the details are what separates a good cabinet installation from a bad one. Getting the cabinets plumb and level are of course very important, but so is getting the cabinet faces lined up, securing the uppers to the wall properly and knowing where to put in filler pieces. After the cabinets are up it's also important to take time getting all the doors and drawers working smoothly and having the correct reveals. If you want to install cabinets yourself but are unsure of how to start, we would be happy to come and show you how to hang a couple cabinets and leave the rest to you.
 
Caulking & Weatherstripping:  Caulking & weatherstripping is a perfect example of diy project, however many homeowners would rather hire someone to do these types of tasks for them. Caulking around your house is very important and is usually something that most homeowners put off for to long. Open caulk joints on the exterior of the building can let in water, wind, and pests. Allowing water to enter the building will cause damage inside the walls, or even sometimes allow water to enter all the way inside the house. When wind starts getting in your home becomes less energy efficient, this ends up costing more money to heat and cool your home. Don't wait until the damage is already done, inspect your home yearly. When you see caulk joints starting to crack, repair them immediately.
 
Concrete Sidewalks: Merritt Construction is not a concrete contractor and we don't take on large concrete projects. We do however take on small concrete projects like a small patio or sidewalk. Most concrete contractors don't want to come and pour a 3'x3' stoop, but we are happy to do such a small job. We also do small sidewalks and other small concrete projects. The concrete work we do is typically such small projects that it is something you would hire a handyman to do, and not a concrete contractor.
 
Crawlspace Work: A wet crawlspace is a major problem. A wet crawlspace promotes wood rot, fungus growth, mold growth, and damaging insects like carpenter ants and termites. Typical crawlspace repair involves digging a trench around the inside perimeter of the crawlspace that descends down to a sump pit. A 4" slotted pipe with fabric covering is placed in the trench and then backfilled with pea gravel. Then plastic is placed throughout the crawlspace to stop ground moisture from entering the air. When installed properly this method will keep your crawlspace dry as long as the pump is able to keep pumping water out of your crawlspace. The other method to fix a wet crawlspace involves fixing it from the outside, while this method is better it is also more expensive and more destructive to your yard. Merritt Construction can fix your wet crawlspace using either method, but most homeowners choose the interior method over the exterior method. Custom Trim Installation: Do you have any trim that needs installed such as baseboards, door and window casing, chair rail or crown molding? We can do that for you, or just help get you started on that project you have been putting off.
Decks: Whether you need a brand new deck installed or just your old deck repaired, we can help you with that. Perhaps you just want someone to help you set the posts and beams and you will finish the decking, we can do that to. Maybe your existing deck is in good shape you just want someone to powerwash and stain it. Whatever your deck needs are we can probably help.
Demolition: Merritt Construction does all types of light demolition work from a single wall to a whole house.
Door Installation: We install all types of interior and exterior doors.
Drywall Repair: Do you have a small or big hole in the wall that needs repaired? Merritt Construction unlike most contractors will come to your home to do small drywall repairs.
Excavating: Do you have a small to medium excavation job that needs done? Perhaps you want to rent a skid steer for the weekend but you are unsure of how to get started. We would be happy to give you a hand whether we do all the work or just give you an hour to help get you started.
Exterior Structures: Merritt Construction does pole barns, mini barns, unattached garages, children's playhouses, and any other exterior building you might want to put on your property.
Fences: Merritt Construction does all types of wood fencing from a picket fence all the way to a privacy fence.
Finish Carpentry: Do you have some cabinets or a book shelf that you need installed, or even want one custom built? We can do that.
Flooring Installations: Merritt Construction does more flooring than any other type of work. We offer laminate, tile and sheet vinyl as flooring options. We unfortunately don't do carpet installation or carpet repair. Maybe you want to tackle a laminate or tile job yourself but are unsure how to start, we would be happy to come and work with your for a couple hours to get you going on the project.
